Abstract: This paper investigates the urban demands for water resources and fruits and vegetables supplies in the Great Goiânia (GO). This region has experienced an intense urban expansion process and population growth, which generated an increase in the demands and greater environmental pressure in the surroundings. The Ribeirão João Leite watershed (BHRJ) was assigned the function of supplying water to the population, by means of the construction of a reservoir and the constitution of an Environmentally Protected Area, which imposed severe land use restrictions, particularly regarding irrigation and the use of pesticides. Within this context, this study analyses, in a comparative manner, the production of fruits and vegetables in the municipalities encompassed by the BHRJ in three successive years (2010, 2011 and 2012), aiming at contributing to the debate about the influence of the reservoir and surrounding protected areas on the production and supply of fruits and vegetables in the Great Goiânia. The results show an expressive production, offer and marketing of fruits and vegetables with origin in the BHRJL municipalities, which raises concerns regarding the scope alerts of current public policies, which should seek to conciliate the production of fruits and vegetables with conservation practices around the reservoir.
