Abstract: A watershed is an ecosystem and morphological unit that reflects the environmental impacts and vulnerabilities related to anthropic interventions. The Ribeirão João Leite watershed (BHRJL), with an area of about 761 km² and located in a zone of rich agricultural potential, constitutes (through its major watercourse, the Ribeirão João Leite) the main water supply for the city of Goiânia (Goiás State capital). In pursuit of a better environmental management of this watershed, this study aimed to identify the segments (at 50m equidistance) of the Ribeirão João Leite (and of the streams of the BHRJL) as graded or ungraded, via the use of the RDE index (stream-gradient index). This index serves the purpose of indicating changes in slope, bedrock resistance to hydraulic erosion, as well as to highlight regions with tectonic activity and crustal deformation. Our results and analysis showed the Ribeirão João Leite to be a watercourse of low velocity and slope, with some ungraded stream segments. The BHRJL had high concentration 2 order anomaly streams, suggesting the predominance of fluvial erosion processes and likely neotectonic activity in its eastern portion.
